If you are a Cannon Downrigger user, you should have this in your spare parts kit!

I have (2) Cannon Mag 10ST Downriggers. I use them mostly fishing in the Sea of Cortez, and I use them a lot! Cannon makes a great downrigger but being here in Baja Mexico, getting parts is next to impossible. So far, I have learned that I need to have spare 12LB weights, (2) spare cable spools (change your cable annually) and recently, I screwed up and now having spare sheer pins for the swivel base is added to my list of must have spare parts. Spare snubbers and spare cable terminator kits. Spare line release. Spare 4 pack of snap insulators.
All of the parts are well built, but stuff happens, to no fault of Cannon. I wash my boat after each use and that includes the downrigger spool. Salt water is hard on Stainless Steel cable, all my research indicates a need to change it out annually. I do it in February every year. I have learned that is I good practice.
When I leave Baja, I inventory my spare parts to save on shipping and refresh my parts list upon return to Mexico.
